Abuja, July 16, 2026 – The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, FCCA, CFE, has called for stronger collaboration between anti-corruption agencies and the National Assembly to deepen Nigeria’s fight against corruption.
Dr. Bello made the call during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on 16th July 2026 at the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja.
The meeting brought together heads of anti-corruption agencies, members of the National Assembly, and other key stakeholders to examine the role of parliamentarians in strengthening transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service.
CCB Reaffirms Commitment to Ethical Governance
Delivering his goodwill message, the CCB Chairman commended the ICPC for organizing the important engagement and reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to promoting ethical conduct and accountability in public office.
He noted that the Code of Conduct Bureau, as a constitutional institution, plays a vital role in promoting compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, preventing conflicts of interest, managing asset declarations, and upholding integrity in public service.
Strengthening the Legal Framework
Dr. Bello emphasized the need to strengthen Nigeria’s legal framework against corruption, noting that the ongoing review of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act presents an opportunity to enhance the Bureau’s effectiveness in responding to emerging governance challenges.
According to him, clearer guidelines are needed in areas such as:
Asset declaration procedures
Regulation of foreign bank accounts
Business interests involving spouses and children
Other ethical issues affecting public officers
