“To fight corruption, fund the frontline. CCB should be on First-Line-Charge” Sen. Neda Imasuen

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, Senator Neda Imasuen, has commended the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, FCCA, FHEA, for the significant progress made in modernising the Bureau’s operations and exploring sustainable funding models.

Speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at an event organised by the CCB with support from International IDEA and RoLAC on 25th November in Abuja, Senator Imasuen highlighted the Bureau’s unique position as one of the few agencies enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. He emphasised that such a critical institution deserves adequate funding to effectively fulfil its mandate in the fight against corruption.

He questioned why the CCB is yet to be included among government organisations drawing funds from the first-line charge, despite its constitutional status and strategic role. According to him, the Bureau is not a creation of an Act of Parliament but a constitutional body and should be treated as such.

Senator Imasuen also expressed admiration for how the Bureau has managed to survive over the years despite limited budgetary allocations. He pledged the full support of the National Assembly, assuring that he will continue to advocate until the CCB is rightly placed among agencies funded through the first-line charge of the Federation Account.
