The Ag. Chairman, Barrister Murtala Kankia, led some top management staff of the Code of Conduct Bureau on a courtesy visit to the office of the Director General of Budget and National Planning, Mr. Tanimu Yakubu, on July 17, 2024, at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja.
Barrister Kankia stated that the purpose of the visit was to seek support from the Budget office to enable the Bureau to fulfil its constitutional mandates effectively. He emphasized that as a pioneering anti-corruption agency, the Bureau’s primary goal is to combat corruption in public office.
Furthermore, Barrister Kankia highlighted several key projects that the CCB urgently needs support for, including the construction of its corporate headquarters building, which requires substantial funding.
Barrister Kankia explained that the Bureau’s annual budget allocation is insufficient given its significant responsibility of monitoring every government salaried officer in Nigeria. He concluded by urging the budget office to support the Bureau to achieve its mandates which in turn will align with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda to combat corruption in Nigeria.
In response, Mr Tanimu Yakubu, the Director General of the Budget Office in Nigeria, expressed empathy for the Bureau’s challenges. He acknowledged the expanded scope of the Bureau’s responsibilities due to the increased autonomy of Local government areas, leading to the need for heightened scrutiny of public offices at that level.
Mr Tanimu assured the Bureau of his office support, emphasizing that combatting corruption in government offices in Nigeria aligns with the vision of renewed hope in the country.
