The Nigerian Legislators have been called upon to improve on the communication of their policies, activities and initiatives to the general public to foster acceptance as well as understanding of these issues.
The Honourable Minister of Information, who was represented by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, made this known during a one-day capacity-building workshop for Legislators and the aids of the House Committee on Ethics and Priveledges on Thursday, 19th September 2024 at the Nigerian Institute for Legislative Studies in Abuja.
The DG NOA explained that when policies and activities are properly disseminated, backlash and speculations will be reduced, thereby leading to acceptance and ownership of projects.
The Acting Chairman Code of Conduct Bureau Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia, while speaking on ethical conduct and national interest, noted that ethics is a question of integrity, which is one of the core mandates of the Bureau.
He added that the Code of Conduct for public officers, as contained in the 5th schedule of the 1999 Constiþution, seeks to ensure that the actions and behaviours of public officers attain the highest standard of public morality and accountability. This is the crust of ethical conduct and national interest, a public officer should always place public interest above personal interest.
