Dr Abdullahi Usman Bello, FCCA, CFE, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), attended an event organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on 19th February 2025 in Abuja.
Dr Bello urged Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen to uphold high moral standards in the execution of their official duties. His remarks were made in the context of discussions on the impact and implementation of the Supreme Court’s judgment on strengthening local government autonomy in Nigeria.
He emphasized that the CCB is not targeting any public officer but will act based on intelligence reports regarding misconduct.
He noted that LGAs are a focus due to the significant resources under their management. Dr Bello further advised public officials to declare their assets to avoid sanctions and reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to organising enlightenment programmes that educate public officers on ethical conduct and compliance with the Code of Conduct in public office.
